

Lt. Col. Gerald R. Harrington, Jr., M.D., U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the age of 62. Gerald (Jerry) was born September 15, 1954, in Denver, Colorado to Gerald Harrington, Sr. and Lois Ann Battelle. He graduated from Riverview Gardens High School in 1972 where he served as Class President and Captain of the football and basketball teams. Choosing to forgo a college football scholarship, Jerry accepted appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in the class of 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Espy, that same summer. During his twenty years of military service, Jerry would graduate from the St. Louis University School of Medicine (Class of 1980), father three children with his lovely wife Sue, and enjoy countless family adventures at military bases around the United States. After completing his final assignment at Brooke Army Medical Center, Jerry and Susan chose to stay in San Antonio. After the many years spent teaching and practicing Critical Care Medicine in the Army, Jerry transitioned into Private Practice specializing in Internal Medicine. He would later commence his near 40-year medical career as a well-known hospitalist and hospice/rehabilitation physician. Gerald was preceded in death by, his parents, Gerald and Lois Harrington; his mother in law, Betty Espy; his brother in law, Bruce Henderson. Gerald R. Harrington is survived by his wife, Susan Harrington; his children, Gerald Harrington III, Brooke Harrington, Brittany and Rick Schroder; his grandchildren, Hayden and Sean Parsons, Gerald and Emerson Harrington, Jackson and Lincoln Schroder; His brothers and their wives, John and Tish Harrington, James and Sandy Harrington, Jeffrey Harrington; His father in law, Richard Espy; His sister in law, Lisa Henderson.
