Gerald B. Smith, Colonel, USAF, Ret., age 78, born September 28, 1923 in Big Valley, Pa; passed away February 14, 2002. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Esther and Wallace Smith and his brother, Harold. He was a proud member of the 15th Troop Carrier Squadron 9th Air Force. He received his ROTC commission at Pennsylvania State University graduating in 1950. He was an active alumnus of Pennsylvania State University. After retirement from the USAF in 1976, he taught in the Northside School District in San Antonio for 11 years. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary, his daughter, Deborah Fischer; son-in-law, Dr. Conrad Fischer and two granddaughters, Alexis and Anna Fischer of Seabrook, TX. Additional survivors are 2 sisters, Naomi Barber and husband, Stanley and sister, Joyce Smith of Pennsylvania and nieces and nephews all of PA.
