On February 11, 2025, Geraldine (Gerry) S. Miller, 86, passed away after a short battle with lymphoma. Feisty and funny, with a flair for fashion and a presence that commanded any room, Gerry was a true queen when it came to holding court. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Diana Novy Lown and William Storer, Gerry grew up in Brownsville, Texas, relocating to Waco, TX for high school. She was a twin to brother Bob and big sister to Larry. At 18, Gerry attended the University of Texas in Austin where she met pharmacology major, Irving Middleman. The two married and moved to Houston, TX, where they welcomed three daughters: Ginger, Cheryl, and Georgia. In 1970, this family of five happily became a family of six when they relocated to San Antonio and Jennifer was born.
In Houston, Gerry worked as a professional tour guide at the Astrodome and in San Antonio, at The Jersey Lilly Hospitality Center at Pearl Brewery Company. It was there, she met her second husband, George Miller. While George was a self-proclaimed “non-dancer,” nothing thrilled him more than watching his beloved get up and kick up her heels with her friends. Gerry danced with the Alamo City Line Dancers and sang with The Mission Belles. She and George remained married for 22 years until George's passing.
Gerry faced many challenges in her life but always navigated them with tenacity and tenderness. As a devoted mother, she took immense pride in her children's achievements and worked tirelessly to ensure her four daughters had everything they needed.
She had a passion for karaoke and cherished her friends deeply. Gerry was known for her kindness, passion, and fun-loving nature. Her eyes twinkled when she laughed. Not one to miss out on life, Gerry carved out a path of independence and strength that left a lasting impression on her daughters. She will be missed more than words can express.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Ginger Sledge of Austin, TX; Cheryl Middleman and Steven Gallaway of Austin, TX; Georgia Middleman and Gary Burr of Nashville, TN; and Jennifer and Bill Hatcher of Nashville, TN.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Temple Beth-El Memorial Park at 1715 Austin Highway, San Antonio TX 78218. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Christopher House in Austin, TX at 2820 E. Martin Luther King Blvd (512) 342-4700 or (800) 445-3261.
