Gilbert Contreras Lopez born April 5th, 1945 in Somerset, Texas went to be with the Lord on July 16th, 2022 at the age of 77. He is preceded in death by his parents Conrado & Grace Lopez, granddaughter Jaylyn Adel Quintero and his brothers Conrad C. Lopez and Paul C. Lopez.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Adela Y. Lopez. Children, Gilbert (Terry) Lopez, Sulema (David) Lopez, Anthony (Diana) Lopez, Brenda (Jaime) Quintero, numerous grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, multiple siblings and life-long friend Oscar Davila.
Gilbert Lopez married Adela Ybarra on April 14th, 1964 in Lytle, Texas. Up until 1962, Gilbert worked in agriculture where he then started his lifelong career as an iron-worker fabricating steel buildings. Shortly thereafter, due to his motivation and work ethic, Gilbert was promoted to job superintendent where he remained until becoming co-owner of the company. Gilbert eventually went on to be a consultant and oversaw multiple types of construction projects. Facing many obstacles in his life, Gilbert never wavered in his faith. He was a proud member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, he alongside his wife assisted and directed marriage encounters for couples and multiple men’s retreats. Gilbert served as a motivational coach for other people with disabilities as he felt that was his God given assignment. A few of Gilbert’s passions included hunting/fishing, ranching and serving others. He never passed up the opportunity of a good joke or prank, as long as it never interfered with his western movies or Dallas Cowboy games. Gilbert played many roles in his life, loving husband, dedicated father, but his favorite and most important was being a grandfather. He expressed a firm hand-shake to his grandsons or a single rose to his granddaughters from his precious rose garden. He will be gone, but never forgotten for he is now a rose in the Master’s bouquet.
A visitation for Gilbert will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211. A rosary will occur Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211. A mass of resurrection will occur Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, 11150 Macdona Lacoste Rd, Atascosa, TX 78002. An interment will occur Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at First Memorial Park Cemetery, 20567 TX-16, Von Ormy, TX 78073.
