He was born on January 19, 1920 in Carroll, Iowa to Jennie Klocke and Charles Pauley.
Gilbert served a long and dedicated military career of active service beginning June 1941 in the US Army Air Corps. He retired from the US Air Force in September 1962. During his career, Gilbert received numerous awards including the Air Force Commendation Medal. He served overseas in Korea, North Africa and Labrador. Gilbert was also promoted to CMSgt in the first group of Chief Master Sergeants of the Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, Gilbert Pauley, Jr.; parents; brother, Charles 'Flip' Pauley; sisters, Mildred Killeen, and Madonna Hjermstad.
He is survived by children, Larry, Susan, Ron, Bob, Steve, Mark, Debbie, Tim, and Brian; numerous daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren.
Father Ed Vigil will officiate. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Gilbert's sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
