I have many memories of Grandpa while growing up. From all the get togethers the family would have usually around the holidays. I loved all the stories Grandpa would tell me too. I am sorry to not have been able to visit often towards the end but, I am glad Bryan was able to meet him. He may not remember to much, but we have pictures to remind him. Grandpa said he has a stocky build and would make a great football player one day. He always had a smile when Bryan was around him. 
Grandpa will truly be missed.

My deepest sympathy, Mark to you and your family. Your Dad is in a better place and resting.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Pauley family during your time of mourning and remembrance. And to you Chief - A Final Salute for your service!!

We have had the privilege to know and be neighbors with CM Sgt Pauley for the last 9 years of his life. During these years, Mr Pauley manifested his leadership and kindness in many ways. He watched over our home when we were away and over me when Steve was gone on trips. He was attentive to our Labrador dog. He kindly offered the use of his sweeping new driveway for our grandshildren's trike riding. He was a student of nature and often told us of the observations he made during his outside exercise and reflection times. He shared his history with my own (deceased) WW II veteran father, USA Major Charles Still. We are aware of Mr. Pauley's fine service to our country and the love he had for his family. He is an example of true good. We are thankful to have known him and to have experienced his friendship.

One of the greatest gifts in my life was introducing my daughter Emma to "Great-Grandpa". From the start it was love at first sight on both ends. He always had M&M's for her and she was always willing to give up lots of hugs and kisses for them! Over the last year, it has filled my heart with great joy to see that Emma would light up his day with our visits. I am blessed to have had my grandpa for 40 years and will forever miss being called "Buckwheat".

In 1970 after announcing our engagement, Ron and I visited the Pauley home. At that time his family presented me with a metal ring with a little "carrot" on top. That round symbol of love represented what Gilbert thought a family should be. He would gather his family around him for weekend barbeques, horse shoes and construction projects on the property. He ordered his "troops" to help build the BBQ pit and a little swimming pool where the children splashed. Gib also took great care with his peach trees and lawn while giving rides to the grandchildren on the mower. At the rear of the yard there was a large vegetable garden which he and the family planted and tended. Gilbert enjoyed creating Family projects and activities to keep them close. When I last spoke with Gib on his 89th Birthday, he said that after he was gone, the family should try to continue the weekend gatherings. This week the family gathers once more to honor and celebrate this man's life. And in turn, he will circle his wings around us to embrace us with his love. I now realize that when I was presented with that little carrot ring, I was being married into the Family of Gilbert Pauley.

I didn't know Chief Pauley but I"m sure it was through his dedication and abilities in the Air Force that paved the way for others to follow. God Bless.

We've known Gib since Brian and Krista married. He was so proud when they married, and told us he couldn't have been happier that Brian had found our daughter. Over the years we saw him at Churchill games and then of course Alex's youth football games. He always had a smile and always had a story about one of his kids or grandkids, all of which he was proud. He truly adored our grandkids, and they were so fortunate to have him in their lives. We will miss him and his scooter at the games (although we still glance over when we see someone driving a scooter).

As kids we were always impressed( and more than a little awed ) by Uncle Gibb's active service record in the Air Force. He was usually pretty reserved but we loved to hear his stories. I also remember the bang he got out of scaring us with warnings about scorpions in our shoes sleeping on his porch!

FROM THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO PLUMBING INSPECTIONS DIVISION: OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY AT THIS TIME OF SADNESS.

Our Dad was an ordinary man who loved his family, his country and his God on his terms. He took great pride in seeing his children grow and succeed and especially cherished holding and playing with his grandchildren and great granchildren. He and our Mother, Evelyn, were married 45 years and were blessed with ten children, two of whom were special needs individuals. Gilbert Jr. has gone home to God but Tim is still here and will miss his Dad, his buddy. Dad was also a quiet hero, a World War II Veteran, who never tired of remembering his flying days as a navigator and maintence and quality control chief for Air Force flying missions. He spoke of his crews with great pride and was always taking the time to seek out his old buddies to remember. He was one among the Greatest Generation we love and will treasure for their duty and honor and for their love of family and country.

I remember Dad mostly for all of the times he took us fishing and going out for Black Cows at the A&W root beer stand in Lake Charles, Louisiana and all of the times we went to the Gulf coast. I remember the times in Maplewood and the little concrete wading pool in the back yard that would be pre-empted from the kids while he and his buddies would clean about 100 pounds of shrimp while drinking beer and cooking BBQ chicken on the pit we built. It was Dad that had all of us boys help build all the construction around the house in San Antonio @ 116 West Castle Lane and now I think that is where I began to realize that I wanted to be an Architect and to build things. He made sure everything was done right and instilled in me that responsibility to do the right thing and keep on working at it until I got it right. I never really thanked him, but he (along with Mom who made sure I was aware of how to care for and respect others) is the main reason for my success in my own life. I love you, Dad.

Ron, I've know you for many years. I never had the privilege to know your Dad but I know your Dad would have been more than proud to here from a stranger that he raised a phenomenal son to prolong the proud last name of Pauley. My wife, myself and my family would like to extend our condolences and express our prayers to you and your family. May God Bless you with strength and understanding. John 11:25,26.

Very sorry to hear about Uncle Gib's passing. Always enjoyed his visits to Carroll. I still have memories from long ago (35-40 years!) of pheasant hunting on the Pauley family farm with some of the cousins. I can also remember sitting in my parents car in the driveway with Steve listening to the radio to a Robert E. Lee football game. I hope all is well with everyone. My condolences to the family.
