Gilberto Caballero, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on May 28, 1941, in Monterrey, Mexico to parents, Maria Del Socorro Caballero and Ruben Caballero.
Gilberto, affectionately known as Beto, was cherished for his infectious sense of humor. He had a gift for making others laugh, and he used it generously. Yet, what truly defined him was the unwavering love and devotion he showed to his beloved wife, Maria, whom he tenderly called Loly—a nickname derived from Dolores.
Throughout their long marriage, Maria faced numerous health challenges, but Beto remained by her side with quiet strength, patience, and deep compassion. His care was constant, his presence reassuring.
Even after 58 years together, their love remained vibrant and true. Beto and Maria’s enduring bond stood as a beautiful testament to commitment and affection, offering a powerful example to their children of what lasting love looks like.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Leticia San Roman; sisters, Yolanda and Blanca; and brother, Jaime. Gilberto is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maria D. Caballero; daughter, Irma Mendoza and husband Edward; son, Gilberto Caballero and wife Brenda; and grandchildren, Angelica, Michael, Marisa, Mariana and Lauryn.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., on August 28, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 am.
