

Gladys Genevieve Hamilton of San Antonio passed away on May 6, 2010. The granddaughter of Texas Ranger and Baptist preacher, Elisha Andrews Briggs and Eliza Jane Newton. She was born March 4, 1915 to Elisha Albert Briggs and Eva Belle Winans.
Genevieve was born and raised on the family ranch on the West Prong of the Medina River. She enjoyed caring for her many ranch pets; chickens, cats, dogs, lambs, and a peacock. Genevieve graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in August, 1938 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.
She taught school for seven years, then trained in hospital lab work at Nix Hospital and Brooke Army Medical Center BAMC where she worked until her job as an Army/Air Force wife took her to her husband Robert's many assignments at Fort Hood, TX; Elmendorf AFB, AK; West Palm Beach, FL; Ent AFB and The Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, CO; Karamursel AFB and Yalova, Turkey; and Fort Meade, MD.
After her husband's retirement the family settled in San Antonio where she resumed her work as a Medical Technologist in 1962. She retired from Civil Service in 1977 and then traveled to Hawaii, Montana, Wisconsin, and the British Isles.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert T. Hamilton 2003, and her brothers, Thomas Isaac Briggs, Edward Everett Briggs, Archibald King A.K. Briggs, Ross Neville Briggs, Eugene Andrews EA Briggs, and Arthur Lee Briggs.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her daughters, Patricia Ann Nichols John and grandson, Ian J. Nichols friend Kimberly L. Miller, of Oshkosh, WI; a great granddaughter, Josephine Kern of Mosinee, WI.; Joyce Marie Hamilton friend Stan Sterba of Harlingen, TX and grandson, Gabriel E. Gassie Shanna Marie of Goldsboro, NC; Linda Eve Hamilton Michael W. Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX; stepson, Robert T. Hamilton Beverly of High Point, NC; grandchildren, David and Diane; and stepdaughter, Mary Kay DeSarro Lenny of Wellsville, OH; grandchildren, Lenny and Robert. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ada May Stumpe Bert and nephews, Kent and Mike Stumpe. Her surviving nephews are Truett, Rambie, Alton, George, Tommy, and Bill Briggs and niece Mary Conner.
The family wishes to thank the loving staff at the Chandler Health Care Center and the extraordinary staff of VITAS Hospice who supported Mother and our entire family through her final days.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring.
