Glenda L. Martinez March 18th, 1949 – April 28th, 2020 Glenda L. Martinez was born on March 18, 1949 to Servando and Hilda Lopez. She spent most of her life in Alice, Tx until she moved to San Antonio where she resided with her husband Roberto Martinez, until her passing. She lived a life of service to others was shown in her everyday life, faith, and career. It was instilled in here at an early age and it was a belief that she openly shared and taught to her family in others. Her faith laid the foundation for this belief, her love of family and friends led her to live it all the days of her life.

Her Faith led her to serve as a member at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Tx and Saint Bridgid Catholic Church in San Antonio, Tx as CCD instructor, leader of the youth group, PTA officer and member of the Catholic Ladies Society.

Her love of her community and fellow man led her to serve in a career of service. She started at an early age during her teenage years in retail, followed by Case management for the State of Texas, and Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Alice until she began her career in the United States Postal Service where she held various positions until her retirement as a Master Trainer and Supervisor. Her greatest love of service came in the love and service of her entire family because they meant so much to her. She always wanted things to be perfect when it came to others and would sacrifice to make it so. The love and laughter of children were her greatest rewards and filled her heart. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest pride, and her husband, Roberto, her greatest love.

Glenda is the loving wife for 49 years to Roberto P. Martinez; daughter of Hilda and the late Servando Lopez; daughter to the late Amando and Lydia Martinez; proud mother to Elana M. Martinez, Jose Adviel “Joey” Martinez (Martha) and Sergio L. Martinez; treasured grandmother to Aaron C. McCoy, Joseph Anthony Martinez, Sarah Marie Martinez, Jessica Elizabeth Martinez; loving sister to Adrian Lopez (Teresa), Amando Martinez, Herlinda Cantu (Ed), Juan Antonio “Johnny” Martinez, and Jose Jaime Martinez. She is also the loving Niece, Cousin, Aunt, “Mom” and friend to so many. As we remember and think of how much we loved her, know that she is with each of us, smiling, and telling us back, “I love you more.”

Visitation will be at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Road, 78240 on Saturday, May 30, 2020 beginning at 7:30 A.M. with a rosary at 8:30 A.M. and a Funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Saint Jude’s Hospital in her memory. Thank you.

I remember being introduced to 'Sergio's mom' at a business meeting. Her smile was warm and inviting. When I stated my name as Alice she said she knew Alice...where she's from. The laugh we shared was a nice welcome into her open heart. If I had to say it in simpler words, she was genuinely a nice and caring person. I close with stating how beautiful it was to see Sergio's face light up when she was talking to groups of people at our business meetings. Prayers and condolences to the family from James and Alice Brown

In this incredible difficult time for your family, I would like to let you all know that Glenda and all her family are in our prayers. You all know that words are often very hard to come by in situations like these. I would like  to share a few words about moms, grandmas, aunts, sisters and how the Lord blesses them:

Our father has always blessed the mothers among us. He has always accompanied them in ushing new life. He has always support them in cherishing what is vulnerable and fragile. He has always enlighten them in mentoring growing lives in the way of peace. He has always held a tender embrace to the givers of nurturing love and whom he embodied his presence here, now and all the days of their lifes.

To a wonderful women with a beautiful soul, whom I will never forget. To Mr. Roberto  Martinez,.thank you for sharing Glenda with us and allowing us to be a part of your lives at a time when we ourselves were just beginning our lifes.....Be assured of our prayers, our faith and our love are with the Martinez family during these challenging times.

I’d only met Mrs. Martinez a few times, but the impression was lasting. She was so very warm, welcoming and kind. The first time we met she treated me like I was a long time friend and shared so many stories! I learned much about the Martinez family that first afternoon 😊. The drive to the store to get ice was particularly interesting as she shared stories about Sergio that he likely wouldn’t have shared otherwise! I loved how warm she was. It was evident in the way she spoke about her children and her parents that there was nothing more valuable than the relationships we cultivate in life. She left a legacy. I’ll remember that first impression always. See you heaven Mrs. Martinez ❤️.
