My deepest sympathy, Kathryn. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers

Kenny and i moved to El Sonteo just two years ago. After noticing the grass growing high and no movement at 12735 El Sonteo, I took it upon myself to mow the grass. Being next door made it a mere extension of lawn. One afternoon, I had chance to meet the neighbor on the other side of Mark's house as he watched intent as I mowed. I stopped to say "Hi" and introduce myself. Mr. Good, an elderly man, was very tickled to tell me this story and he started by saying" Well NOW we know who is mowing Mark's lawn" he smiled. He went on to say that Mark had been to see him just a few days back and that he had come with a big pot of soup. " Yea, Mark came walking in the garage and handed me this big roasting pot full of soup as he looked me in the eye and started to thank me for mowing his grass" I started to smile as Mr. Good went on to say that he looked at Mark a little puzzled and said" I did not mow your grass. I believe it is those folks on the other side of you. So, the next tim you see Mark, tell him I sure did enjoy the soup!" I asked him if the soup was good, and Mr Good said to me" Evrything ole Mark does is better than good. You need to tell him to make you a pot next time. " No sir ! " I spouted. " I'll mow the grass, You eat the soup. I just want the house to look lived in. 
I did meet Mark and what a nice man. A year passed and we needed to move. Mark did not like the house sitting vacant attracting undesirable attention so one day he made an offer to me that I never thought would happen. He offered to sell the house to us. He did not know much about us at all. He had only talked with us a few times but he always told us what a pleasure it was to see us again. We bought the house and just a few Saturday's back, we went to Adkins to deliver his dogrun. Kenny was smoking a cigarette, Mark was fresh home from back surgery so neither of us let Mark carry any part of or help unload the back of the truck. He stood there and oversaw the unloading of materials and out of the silence, mark , like the voice of an old wise man said "Kenny, When you going to put those things down? They are not any good for you.!" Kenny replied with a simple " Yes Sir" he was talking about cigarettes. Our time to Know MArk was short but the lessons learned and the character present in Mark is a constant guide for how to be incere, caring and giving of ourselves. Mark had a contagious laughter and demeanor about him that stuck with me all day. We barely knew Mark yet somehow, in the short time we had, we know that there was much to learn and appreciate about him. Mark you will be missed.

There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time. Mark was a family friend since his teens. Kathryn became ours, too, after they were married. We are blessed to know both of them. We will miss Mark but his memory will stay with us all.

Some of my fondest childhood memories were ones spent with you, Mark and your family. Mark was like an uncle to me and he will be sorely missed. He always had a positive outlook and great sense of humor no matter how bad things actually were. He was an inspiration to all and helped to shape many lives for the better. I carry on with a heavy heart but hope to do him jutice in carrying on the values he helped me to find over the years. I hope that today, you are able to find a small piece of comfort in seeing all the many people on whom Mark was able to make his mark felt and know that he is living on through them. Mark was my friend since our teen years. He, Dale, JD, and I have been having lunch together about every 2-3 years since at least 1975 or so. We and all his other friends will miss him greatly. Farewell for now ol' friend.

I love you Mark. For a number of years when Lonnie would return to San Antonio for a visit, it gave a few of us old high school buddies an excuse to get together for lunch. As these luncheons continued and the attendance grew, our one constant was - Mark would always be there. His smile, his humorous anecdotes, and his love for his family were always present. Wow, I am still in shock.... My heart is so with you and the family. I had so much fun visiting with you and Mark the other day. He was helping me cope with Herb so sweetly.... To Marks family and friends I am both shocked and saddened to hear of his sudden passing. My feelings and thoughts are that his was a life that has ended to soon. Last year I had the pleasure to see Mark and have lunch with him and many of our friends at two of those Old Pals-HHS 65 lunches. Although it had been many years since I last saw him he acted as if no time had passed and welcomed me as if it had only been days since we last spoke. We remembered his GTO and he told me how he and few of those present had started having those HHS 65 luncheons and how it had grown into quite a gathering, there were probably 20 people there when I visited. Anyway, we spoke of careers and many things, past and present but most of the conversation always came back to his his family and his pride and devotion to all of you. To me and many who might read this Mark really was one of the good guys. I am certain that he will be missed by any and all who knew him. Although, I cannot be there I would like to offer to you my deepest condolences and our sincerest prayers for you, your family and his many friends. I will always hang on to the memories of Mark as a friend and Mark & Kathryn as a very special couple. I'm honored to have known Mark and will continue to enjoy my friendship with Kathryn.

Mark was a person with such integrity and a good sense of what is important in life. He also had a significant sense of humor and enjoyed getting along with everyone. Ours thoughts and prayers are with Mark's family and his many, many friends. He will be missed by ALL.
