Gloria Z. Solis, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 26, 1936 in Floresville, Texas, to Betty Quintanilla and Victor X. Zuniga. She was a beloved wife, sister, friend, and aunt to so many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gloria was a proud 1956 graduate of Floresville High School, home of the Floresville Tigers. During her high school years, she loved the game of basketball and excelled in all academics, but her most significant quest was meeting the love of her life, Manuel “Chue” Solis. They were married on May 24, 1958, soon after moved to Corpus Christi to attend, formerly known as, Texas A & I University. And there they began their young marriage and built a beautiful life together. Over the years she kept in touch with lifelong high school friends and was actively involved in the planning and organizing of most of her reunions. She had a deep connection to her hometown of Floresville and always made a point to visit often. Gloria and Chue traveled the world and settled in Victoria, TX for many years. Once back in San Antonio, Gloria worked as a production control manager for Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. for 35 years, and remained devoted to her career until she retired on March 17, 2000.
Gloria was a passionate and enthusiastic fan of the San Antonio Spurs; she never missed a game and was always so generous and willing to share the experience with family and friends. Gloria insisted on her game day ritual of taking the VIA park and ride, eating pizza, and enjoying ice cream at halftime; every game was a joyful event regardless of the outcome. She was known for her love and devotion to the game and to the Spurs, and was fascinated with everything that came along with it. From bobbleheads, to jewelry, to newspaper articles, to magazines, to every Spurs souvenir that was on display in the one room she would call her “Spurs Room.” A very proud fan who remained a season ticket holder until she could longer attend the games.
Gloria was a devout Catholic and was an active member the Catholic Daughters Local Court at St. Matthews for over 15 years, where she served on the Board for two-terms as Treasurer. She had a heart of gold and was most interested in making a lasting impact within her church community and the charities that it served.
Gloria never met a stranger, she loved everyone, and was always willing to get involved in helping others. She was a member of the Countryside POA Garden Club and would often host luncheons and parties. She loved taking care of her yard, entertaining and having her neighbors over to visit to share stories of their families.
She was preceded in death by, her husband Manuel J. Solis. Gloria is survived by her only sister Dolores Musket; and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she loved so deeply.
A special thank you to Sam Vesa and to the staff at Pipestone Place Assisted Living. Thank you for the love and care you bestowed on Gloria over these past years. The family is forever grateful.
