He was born to an Air Force family in the middle of a snowstorm at the former Naval Hospital in Kittery, Maine. His first toys were radio electronic parts. These started his love of electronics. His family traveled and lived in many places including Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Montana, California, Japan, and Texas.
Gordon was a proud 1977 graduate of John Jay High School. His favorite class was Electronics. He worked installing radios at a dealership, while he attended San Antonio College. He majored in Radio Broadcasting. He enjoyed his “Project Studio” where he would play his favorite songs as well as requests from family and friends.
In 1979 he joined the Air Force himself to pursue the (BMET) Biomedical Repair Technician career. He started a family. After a four-year tour of duty, he decided to return home to San Antonio. He wanted his children to grow up in the town he loved.
Gordon worked at Murrie Electronics as the only authorized service technician in Southeast Texas. He also worked in the Methodist Healthcare System. He proudly worked at Methodist for 41 years. He was part of a valued team to open and maintain the first Cardiac wing and many other additions. Gordon’s love, care, and meticulous attention to detail was highly regarded and unmatched. He was dedicated even on his days off to answer questions and help with needs that arose. Gordon was part of the Emergency Preparedness Team. He used the C.B. (CK) and Ham license (N5ZCK) to help to coordinate between hospitals. In his time off, he also belonged to several Radio Relay groups including the Weathernet.
He was great at DIY problem solving. His mechanical comprehension was unmatched. He loved all kinds of music and instilled the love of music in his children. He also enjoyed Star Trek, cars, and old tv and radio shows. He used humor to destress situations. He was considered a good friend by many. His children consider him the world’s greatest Dad and Grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his sister Lydia and his father, Ronald. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Rose, his children Jennifer (Matthew), Karen (Michael), Laura, Bryan, Alexander, grandsons Hayden and Brycen, mother Saiko, sister Mary (Solange), brother David, sister-in-laws Lynn, and Robin, and their children, other relatives, and friends.
Gordon was a caring, fun, kindhearted person that touched the lives of many. He wanted his loved ones to remember him when they eat tacos, listen to music, and hear puns. Gordon bravely and boldly left his family and friends after a brief medical crisis. He is dearly missed. Please consider getting screened for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.
Gordon will receive the three-volley salute and Taps at Fort Sam on February 7, 2025.
