

Graciela spent her formative years in San Antonio and was a Class of 1951 graduate of Incarnate Word High School -- the first graduating class from the Mount Erin campus. After high school, Graciela returned to west Texas and graduated from Sul Ross University with a BS in Education. She later earned a Masters in Education from Our Lady of the Lake University. Graciela was a devoted educator for 45 years, having taught in El Paso, TX, Santa Fe, NM and San Antonio. She touched the lives of innumerable students. At the end of her career she was recognized with a Yellow Rose of Texas Education Award for outstanding service as a Texas educator
Gracie was a woman of purpose and a devout Catholic. She was immensely loved by friends and family. She taught us loyalty, courage and hope by example and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Her love of travel, photography, dance and music showed us the beauty and joy in our world. Her children and loved ones saw how her face lit up on the dance floor and the excitement in her eyes as she embarked on another trip. A dedicated Spurs and Cowboys fan, she was always the loudest cheerleader thrilled with their championship seasons. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her children Margaret Hieke and spouse Heribert, Linda Aguilar, Reyes Aguilar, Jr. and spouse Camille. Brother, Orlando Segura and spouse Laura and her sister Rosemary Madla- Mani and spouse George. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Anthony, Adrienne, Jonah, Graciela, Stephanie, Sophia, Ella Grace and great-granddaughter, Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents Encarnacion and Trinidad Segura, her brother, Luis Segura and her former husband, Reyes Aguilar, Sr. Gracie was a lifelong Democrat, and a believer in the power of education. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 with the holy rosary to be prayed at 7:00. Funeral mass will be held Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando #2 Cemetery.
