Born on September 13, 1957, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Greg graduated from Center High School before attending Longview College in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. On October 26, 1985, Greg married the love of his life, Peggy Lynn Bergner, in Kansas City, Missouri. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Greg began his career with Sysco Food Supply and Distribution, where he worked from 1987 to 2002. In 2003, he and Peggy moved their family to San Antonio, Texas, where Greg worked for Wells Fargo Mortgage, Ryder Trucking, and Penske Trucking before retiring in 2021.
In retirement, Greg poured his heart into his church and community. He was a steadfast presence at Bible studies, men’s groups, youth missions, and the Community Café, always offering a helping hand. Greg provided his time and muscle each year to the Annual Women’s Rummage Fundraiser. Greg also found great joy in being a scout leader, coaching youth sports, and spending time with his beloved family. He had a passion for antique cars, target shooting, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. Greg brought laughter to everyone he met and knew no strangers. When asked how he was doing, he would always say, "I am better than I deserve!"
Greg never retired from coaching his boys, mentoring others, and being Peggy’s protector. He loved, guided, and taught his sons to follow Jesus Christ. Greg joyfully stepped into and excelled in his newest role as a grandpa.
Greg is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, Peggy Bartholomew; sons Logan Bartholomew and wife Jenna, and Landon Bartholomew and wife Samantha; grandchildren Adrian James, Alizah Michele, and Francine Michele; brother Robert Bartholomew and wife Cindy; half-sister Janice Lewis; half-brothers Kenny Eldridge and wife Tammy, and Mike Eldridge and Sheena Hendricks; sister-in-law, Janis Lughermo and husband Victor; nieces and nephews Lindsay Bartholomew, Leslie Bartholomew, Tiffany Wilson, Meagan Schwab, Samantha Eldridge, Lauren Eldridge, Zachary Eldridge, Nick Eldridge, Jared Jeffries and Jeremy Eldridge.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Merrell Eldridge; adoptive parents, Bob and Helen Bartholomew; In-laws, Richard and Jean Bergner, stepdaughter, Michele Palacios; and nephew, Justin Jeffries.
