Gus Owen Stephens went to be with Jesus on November 1st, the Celebration of All Saints. He was joyfully welcomed into heaven by a large cloud of witnesses- most notably his namesakes, grandfather Gus Mauermann Allen and great-grandfather Richard Owen Arneson.
Gus' spirit remained vibrant and bright until the end and we rest in knowing that his little body is now wholly restored to match it.
He is survived by his mom and dad, Elizabeth and Scott, and sister Lucy; his grandparents Kathleen and Charles Stephens and grandmother Ann Allen; his aunts, Maggie Gambrel and Seeley Stephens; uncles, Robert Gambrel and Scott Allen; and cousin, Carrie Gambrel. He is also survived by his extended family great-grandparents Barbara Briggs Arneson and Dr. Charles Anthon Stephens; and numerous great aunts, great uncles, and cousins.
Gus was the one of the greatest joys of his mommy and daddy's life and his six short months in the world were full of abundant love.
We want to thank the PICU doctors and specialists at Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio, most importantly Dr. Danny Kofos, and the doctors and specialists in the Cardiovascular ICU and Genetics teams at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston for the care of our son. We also want to thank the countless number of nurses who worked tirelessly to ensure Gus' comfort and our understanding. We remember each of you by name and are grateful for your care.
The support and prayers of friends and family have been immeasurably impactful and so appreciated. To say that it takes a village is an understatement.
We will continue to live our lives on earth with a deep sense of peace in our hearts knowing that God promises that we will be with our sweet Gus again.
