

Gwendolyn Valarie (Clancy) Rose, age 95, died peacefully on November 13, 2016, at home, after a brief struggle with pneumonia. Gwen was born on September 28, 1921 in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Roy J. Clancy and Mildred E. Wesp.
Gwen was an avid swimmer and work out enthusiast. For 40 years, she was a member of Trim and Swim and later Health Link, where she swam 25 lengths 3 days a week. Gwen graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1938. She belonged to many clubs and organizations and was a lifetime member of the Brackenridge MTAA.
In 1941, Gwen married the love of her life, Charles H. Rose, Jr. and for 59 years they lived in San Antonio, Houston and La Grange, TX. In addition to raising four sons, she volunteered for many years as a reading tutor at Ridgeview Elementary.
Gwen was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church for over 50 years. Through the church she volunteered at the Green Door, Altar Society, and Pastoral Care.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rose Jr.; her son, Charles "Chick" Rose III. She is survived by sons, Wallace "Dub" Rose and wife, Donna, of Dale, TX, Ron Rose (Lori Swaney), and Jeff Rose (Kay Herr), of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Jeremy Rose and Amy Rose of Portland, OR, Wesley Rose of Glendale, CA, Clancy Rose and wife, Dawn Robinette, of Austin, TX, Daniel Rose (Keirstin Bennett), Hannah Rose and Claire Rose, of San Antonio, TX; and great-grandchildren, Cae Rose of Rochester, MN, and Aria Rose of San Antonio, TX.
Besides our dear friends and relatives, we would like to thank Dr. Gordy Hall (especially PA Greenfield, and Maura) of WellMed, and all those who cared for Mom.
There will be a service held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Friday, November 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in Gwen's name to Gentiva Hospice.
