Harry Wilton Anderson went to be with the lord on July 9th, 2015, joining his beloved wife, Merlene. He was born in 1922 in Marlin, Texas to George William Anderson and Ella Irene Foster. He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Lisciarelli (Gary), Kay Price (Scott), and Jill Lemieux (Bill). His grandchildren were a great joy to him: Lisa Costello (Jim), Randy Lisciarelli (Heather), Michelle Blair (Kenny), Erin Nowak (Josh) and Emily Butler (Rian). He was blessed to have ten great grandchildren: Skylar Fletcher, Blaine Blair, Joshua Lisciarelli, Matthew Lisciarelli, Jordan Blair, Amber Lisciarelli, Trey Costello, Lilah Blair, Claire Nowak and Charlotte Nowak.
Known to many as “Andy”, he enlisted in the Air Force by hitchhiking to Randolph AFB in 1941. Soon after enlisting, he married the love of his life, Merlene. He proceeded to pilot’s training preparing for duty in World War II. After serving in Italy based near Cerignola on the Adriatic Sea, and completing 50 bombing missions flying B-24 bombers, he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross and returned home. He was recalled to duty for the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After attaining the rank of Major and serving as a pilot, he remained in the Air Force for 20 years, serving in both Okinawa and Germany. After retiring at Randolph AFB he joined the US Civil Service working at Ft. Sam Houston for another 20 years. Growing up in the Great Depression, the military gave him a way to the world and he was forever a service man for his country.
The Greatest Generation is missing a hero. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his “no salt” margaritas, visiting casinos, listening to music, watching many sports and sitting on his front porch feeding his dove. He will be, missed terribly by his family, friends and longtime neighbors.
Services will be Saturday, July 18th at Sunset Funeral Home on Austin Highway. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with services at 2:00 pm with full military honors. A private burial at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
