

Harvey was born in San Antonio to Harvey Davidson Holland and Edna Mae (Hardin) Holland on July 27, 1930. He married Mildred D’Arlene Scaief on July 24, 1950.
He graduated from Baylor University in 1969. He retired in 1985 as a district manager for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he worked for over 35 years. He briefly served in the Marines during the Korean War. He loved gardening and always had a vegetable garden wherever he lived. He became an expert in raising many species of orchids and was actively involved in the Austin Orchid Society. Rising to the level of judge, he judged many orchid shows in Texas. He also won many awards for the orchids he grew, with the Phalaenopsis being his favorite. His Christian faith was important to him, and he was a Deacon in the Baptist Church. After his return to San Antonio, he became a member of Wayside Chapel. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed the many cruises he took with his family.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Edna Holland; his brother in law, John Gillis; his father and mother in law, Leslie and Mildred Scaief; his brother in law, Duane Scaief; and his son-in-law, Clayton Smith.
Harvey is survived by his wife of almost 75 years, D’Arlene Holland; his daughters, Melanie Smith of Houston, and Sally (Bill) Gustafson of San Antonio; his sister, Jeanenne Gillis of Brownsville; and his grandchildren, Stephen Smith of Tulsa, Philip Smith of Houston, and Lisa Gustafson of San Antonio.
A private family graveside service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home with John Gordon of Wayside Chapel officiating.
