

Hector Alanis, age 70, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Hector was born on Wednesday, January 4, 1956, in San Antonio, Tx. Surrounded by the love of his family, he will be remembered as a devoted family man, proud Marine, community member, and a friend to many.
Hector graduated from Edgewood High School in May of 1974. Soon after, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from September 1978 to September 1982, completing four years of honorable service.
Following his military service, Hector dedicated many years to serving the people of San Antonio. Beginning in November 1986, he worked as a van operator for VIA Metropolitan Transit, providing transportation to people across the city. Through his work he met countless individuals from all walks of life, always greeting others with kindness and respect. Safety was always important to him, and he completed numerous risk-management and safety training sessions throughout his career.
Hector was also well known in the local entertainment and radio community. Beginning in January 1994, he served as a weekend disc jockey for KEDA Radio 99.9 FM in San Antonio. That was his passion. Through his broadcasting he helped bring Spanish radio entertainment to the community and served as Master of Ceremonies for many live events featuring local, national, and international entertainers. He also worked with KBOP Radio in Pleasanton, Texas, assisting with public relations and marketing for the station.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Hector was deeply involved in community organizations and events. He worked with the Fiesta Flambeau organization where he contributed to improving safety equipment and transportation for volunteers and participants. He was dedicated to ensuring the safety and success of community celebrations. Hector also had a show called “San Antonio de Noche” show. The program showcased events and entertainer in local and state venues to the San Antonio viewing audience.
Hector was also honored to serve as Vice President of the U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association, continuing his commitment to supporting fellow veterans and honoring those who served.
Hector was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Alanis and Daniel L. Alanis Sr., and his brother, Daniel Alanis Jr., and his aunts and uncles.
Above all, Hector cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Irene Alanis; sister, Irma Flores; beloved niece, Claudia Arenas, and her husband, Israel Arenas; niece, Ashley Flores; sister-in-law, Annie Alanis and her boys; brother, Edward R. Alanis and wife, Toni; stepson, Raul Ibanez; stepdaughter, Michelle Putnam and her husband, O.J. He was also a blessing to the extended Ibanez family and many other relatives and friends whose lives he touched.
Hector Alanis will be remembered for his generosity, his service to others, and the joy he brought to his community. His life was truly a blessing to many people, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him forever.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary. The funeral service will immediately follow.
The following morning, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, a visitation will continue from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A procession will depart Porter Loring Mortuary at 12:15 p.m. to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. committal service.
