Hector Armando Arce

He was born on July 12, 1924 in Marfa, Texas to parents, Ramon and Francisca (Chavira) Arce. Hector served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Serving from Guadalcanal, he participated in the invasion of Peliliu in 1944 with the Mobil Communication Unit 43E attached to the First Marine Division and the Occupation of Yokosuka, Japan in 1945.

After the war, he completed his BBA and ME at Sul Ross State College. Hector's professional career as an educator spanned 40 years where he served as a science and math teacher, coach, principal, and Director of the 588 Educational Co-Op in far west Texas.

He was a pioneer in the education profession in Marfa, TX and a pillar of the community. Hector served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa. He was also past president of the Paisano Lions Club. Hector will be remembered as a loving husband and father and a doting grandfather and great grandfather, always there to help when needed. He will be forever a blessing to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Hortencia Butler.

Hector is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian Arce; his daughters, Elizabeth Rourke and her husband, Michael and Linda Gonzalez and her husband, Ron; his son, Dr. Hugh Mark Arce; grandchildren, Chandra Gonzalez and her husband, Carlos, Danika Melia and her husband, R.J.; great-grandchildren, Cade Leisering, Madison Gonzalez, Riley Melia, Davis Melia and Jack Melia; nephew, Ron Butler.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
