She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Leonard Powell Carter, US Army, (Retired).
After her husband returned from overseas service in WWII, they decided to remain in the Army, and spent ten years of his military career in Asia and Europe serving and traveling. In 1948, she was appointed Army Librarian, HQ, XXIV Carpe, Seoul, Korea for service at the 89th Station Hospital in Taejon, Korea. She retired from the Office of the Chief of Staff, Fifth United States Army, Fort Sam Houston, TX in 1975. After retirement, she and her husband continued their travels until his death in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Carter) Reed and her husband Tom; a grandson, John Carter Reed and wife Dawn; a granddaughter, Amy (Reed) Miller and husband Harry and four great-grandchildren: Madeleine and Carter Reed; Harry, V and Bennett Catherine Miller.
