Helen Vlahakis Ford was born in Chicago, IL on December 8, 1928. She chose a career in nursing, graduating from the Evanston Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Helen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern University in 1958.
She married Dr. Houston C. Ford and pursued a more challenging career as mother and homemaker. Twenty years and three children later, she resumed her professional and academic interest in nursing, lasting until the death of her husband in 1994.
Although increasing age brought a decline in her health including blindness by macular degeneration, her courage never wavered and her spirit never flagged. Cheerful in adversity, charitable to the needy, faithful to her God, she carried herself with a grace and dignity truly admirable.
She was as smart as she was lovely and as lovely as she was good. We will miss her always and love her forever.
Helen is survived by her brother, George; children, Sarah, Eleny and James and grandson, Stanford.
