

Helen Hershman Kerman was born February 1, 1921 to Leah and Jacob Hershman and passed away February 15, 2024 at the age of 103. Helen graduated from Eleanor Brackenridge Elementary School, Hawthorne Middle School, Thomas Jefferson High School, and attended Our Lady of the Lake School of Music. Helen married the love of her life, Jerome (Jerry) Kerman on June 20, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. Helen taught Sunday School for many years at Agudas Achim congregation under the supervision of Berdie Scharlack Schwartz.
Helen was very active in the Pioneer Women’s Organization of Israel, Hadassah, and Agudas Achim Sisterhood. Helen worked for 19 years at Scrivener’s Specialty Shop, which later became Bering’s, until they closed in 2005. Helen is pre-deceased by her husband Jerry Kerman after 51 years of marriage, parents Leah and Jake Hershman, brother Rabbi Morris Hershman, and sister Mildred Kenter. Helen is survived by her children, daughter Sharyn Teitelbaum and husband Harry of Plano, Texas, and son Nathan Kerman and wife Carole of San Antonio. Grandchildren Stefani (Eduardo) Tichauer, Melissa Staller, Lauren (Brian) Silverstein, Joey (Debra) Kerman, Karly (Mitchell) Penner, brother Abe (Janet) Hershman, and her surrogate children Rene and Marty Wender, nine great grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremy, Joshua, Ethan, Brinley, Seth, Sydney, Mickey and Sawyer.
Special thanks to Helen’s caregivers Maria Hernandez, Lourdes Mateo, family friend, Diana Rodriguez and the staff at Trinity Hospice. Extra special thanks to Helen’s daughter-in-law, Carole Kerman who managed her daily care.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 18th, at 2:00pm at Agudas Achim Memorial Cemetery on Austin Highway.
