Helen Audyne Ware Rogers passed peacefully into heaven on Saturday, November 6, 2021. She was born in Murchison, Texas on October 19, 1919 to parents Roy Ware and Minnie Moore Ware. Helen attended high school in Athens, Tx. and graduated from St. Pauls Nursing School in Dallas where she obtained her Registered Nurse Degree. During that time, she met a handsome medical student, Albert Rogers, and they married in 1940. They were married for 69 years before his death in 2009. Helen attributed her longevity to a healthy lifestyle, long before it was fashionable. She ate sparingly, exercised daily and practiced Tai Chi and Yoga even into her nineties.
She was a lifelong learner, always reading, taking classes in Spanish, religion, philosophy and art, and attending retreats, seminars, and workshops. All the while, she was raising six children. She studied art throughout her life with many notable artists in San Antonio and entered local art shows where she received recognition. Helen enjoyed her memberships in the McNay Art Museum, San Antonio Art League, San Antonio Watercolor group, the Coppini Academy and Southwest School of Art. She painted daily in her retirement in her own studio and often brought in models to pose as well as artists to paint with her. She was a prolific painter and rather than sell her work, she shared her beautiful art with her children, grandchildren and friends. She delighted in seeing her paintings decorating their homes, creating a beautiful legacy for her family to enjoy. A devout Catholic, Helen was a member of St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, St. Monicas Guild, and The Bexar County Medical Alliance. Helen also enjoyed traveling and making memories on trips throughout the world with her husband, including trips to the coast with children and grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her children, Dr. Albert Rogers Jr., Christina ONeill Chitwood (Bill), Dulci Rao (Frank), Dr. Randall Rogers (Gay), Mary McDonnell (Henry), Anne Routon (Allen), twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gladys Dowell, brothers Erskine, Denson, Vernon, husband Albert M. Rogers, M.D. and daughter-in-law, Susan Rogers.
Helen was a creative, loving and devoted wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all.
A private burial (family only) will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery preceding the Memorial Mass. Those who desire may send memorial contributions to The Village at Incarnate Word, 4707 Broadway, 78209 or to the charity of your choice.
