Helen M. Mucha, age 80, of San Antonio, born January 30, 1921 in New Salem, PA to the late John and Julia Koman Kasinec of Masontown, PA, passed away Friday, January 18, 2002. A graduate of German Township High School, McClellantown, PA, in 1939, she attended Newark City Hospital School of Nursing and completed post graduate work at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital. She joined the U. S. Navy Nurse Corps and was commissioned Ensign in 1942. Mrs. Mucha served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II at Fleet Hospital 114, Samar, Philippine Islands and was discharged in 1947 as Lt. Sr. Grade. Employed at Methodist Hospital from 1965 through 1979, she served in the capacity of Staff Nurse, Head Nurse, and Staffing Coordinator. She was preceded in death by her sister, Julia LaFon, Albuquerque, NM. Survived by her husband, of 54 years; son, David and wife, Jan Elizabeth; grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth, David Garrett, Dallas, TX; also brother, Thomas Kasinec, Erie, PA; sister, Pauline Riegel, Baltimore, MD.
