He is preceded in death by his parents, Mauricio Perez Sr. and Isaura Perez; brothers, Ricardo Perez, Joe Perez Sr., Gilbert Perez Sr., Julio Perez, Paul Perez Sr., Danny Perez, Robert Aleman; and sisters, Josefina Perez and Gloria Reyes.
Kike was born on June 13, 1956 in the deep West Side of San Antonio, Tx “78207” to Mauricio and Isaura Perez. At a very young age, he joined his father and numerous brothers in their family business doing masonry work, calling themselves “Brick Layers.” Early in his life, Kike met the mother of his five children, Yolanda, and they spent numerous years together. During these years Kike continued working as a brick layer with his brothers and friends. He loved building everything from homes to barbecue pits, mailboxes, flowerbeds, fences, you name it. He did any side job just to support his family, making him the best father and provider. Kike was a fun, loving jokester and the life of the party.
To find Kike anywhere, all you needed was to follow Guadalupe Street and look for him at his usual hangouts. There you would hear his strong voice and you would find him telling jokes, dancing, singing and telling his stories of his good ol’ times. If you didn’t hear his stories, no worries, you would hear them again and again, and no matter what they never ever got old. They were always interesting to hear, especially the scary stories.
Kike made friends wherever he went and everyone who came to know him, loved him. Everyone knew he loved to dance, listen to oldies, corridos, tejano and conjunto music. He had a sense of humor like no other, always cracking jokes and talking smack. Everyone knew one thing for sure though, don’t mess with his family! He would put you in your place with a quickness.
Kike was one of a kind and could pull off any style. He loved wearing hats. You would always find him wearing his stetson hat, baseball or trinity flat caps. He would dress casual, wearing Dickies with a wife beater shirt, suspenders and white converse. He would dress western, wearing his cowboy hat and boots with his brown suede jacket. He was unique in so many ways, but everyone knew him by his favorite, signature “lowrider style,” wearing his tanditos, guayaberas, slacks, and his Stacy Adams (and they all had to be from Penner’s).
Kike also loved waking up early to clean inside and out. When outside he put his green thumb to use and loved to plant, do garden work and place garden figurines, from frogs, ladybugs, lights and all his colorful wind spinners. He also loved to do crossword puzzles, color, play dominoes and collect mini lowrider cars.
Kike had a special type of love for his children, his granddaughter and grandsons. They loved to talk to him, pick on him and get him all riled up, and enjoyed taking snapchats and videos of him dancing, singing, telling fun stories and showing his love. His presence was truly a gift to them all.
Kike was a devoted and overprotective son, father, brother, grandpa and friend. He had countless brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews that will also remember him for his respectful, playful, and fun spirit. Kike will be missed by ALL but NEVER forgotten. He touched so many hearts and was loved by so many. We know that he is embracing and reuniting with his mom and dad, siblings, and numerous loved ones.
The love and memories that Kike left behind will leave an imprint on his children forever. Although it won’t be the same, they know he will be smiling down and having a blast watching them continue his traditions. They were grateful to share the time they had with him and now he will live vicariously through them.
May God receive him into his kingdom and may El Kike Rest In Peace.
