

He graduated from Highlands HS in San Antonio in 1963. After school, he became a TV cameraman before enlisting in the Air Force. He ultimately achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard.
Herb went to Southwest Texas University while working a variety of jobs including at a butcher shop and textile mill. After graduating, he worked as a planner for San Antonio before joining SAWS, where he retired in 2011.
Herb was very active with his church and led their Habitat for Humanity program. An avid gardener, he was co-director of the Children's Garden and served on the board of the Botanical Center. He also enjoyed working on his farm, blacksmithing, birding, target shooting, fishing, history, and family time.
Herb is survived by children Nicole and Derek Mueller and preceded in death by his parents Otto and Viola Mueller and wife Karen Mueller.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, September 12 at Christ Lutheran Church Alamo Heights, 6720 Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity and Heifer International.
