

Dr. Herbert W. Siegal passed away on September 27, 2007 in San Antonio at the age of 89. Herb was born in Boston, Massachusetts and after graduating from Oklahoma City University and the University of Chicago moved to San Antonio in 1946.
He will be fondly remembered by the numerous students whose lives he touched in his over half century of teaching, primarily in the San Antonio Independent School District. After leaving the classroom he was a guidance counselor and then administrator of the GED in San Antonio. Additionally, he taught psychology at San Antonio College and worked at Keystone Academy.
Herb published "By the Sweat of the Brow" which was a report on extra-contractual wages and jobs of San Antonio teachers in 1952.
He retired from the Army Reserves with the rank of Major following over 20 years of service.
Herb was married to Mary Siegal for 60 years until her death 3 years ago. Together they were actively involved in the Jewish community as both board members and supporters of many organizations, including Congregation Agudas Achim, the Jewish Federation, Jewish Family Services, and Hadassah.
Herb is survived by his wife Isabel; his 2 children, Bernard and Beverly, their spouses Denise Siegal and Richard Peiser; and grandchildren, Aron Siegal, Allison Peiser, and Michael Peiser.
His students, friends, and family will always remember his bow tie, friendly smile, encouraging words, and amusing stories.
