Howard Ross Hager, age 87, of Kerrville, TX entered into rest on May 12, 2018. Howard was born on October 15, 1930 in Yakima, Washington to Floyd and Dorothy (Harker) Hager. Howard attended Naches High School in Washington, Washington State University, and received an Associates of Arts, from San Antonio College. Howard proudly served in the United States Air Force in 1950 during the Korean conflict and received an Honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1953. He was a member and ordained Deacon of the Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville. His lifelong career entailed all aspects of the mapping industry where he worked on field surveys to final map products such as: military maps, nautical, aeronautical and navigational charts, tactical maps, and topographic maps for the government, oil industry, and tax authorities. Howard was well-known as an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He was a charter member and officer of the San Antonio chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He supported the principals of conservation and responsible stewardship of wildlife and waterfowl. Howard was a noted wood carver of decorative duck decoys, winning award ribbons at wildlife shows and festivals. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Anne (Montgomery) Hager of Kerrville, TX; children, Karen Gayle Evans (Kim Ron) of Comfort, TX, Kathleen Ann Kilgore (Stanton) of Comfort, TX, and Ross Stephen Hager of Schertz, TX; grandchildren, Allison Evans, Colby Evans, Emily Evans, William Kilgore (Khrystyne), Kristen Kilgore, Logan Hager, Carson Hager; great-grandchild Annabeth DeWoody; sister, Marilyn Clark, of Washington; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-law Kim Ron Evans and Stan Kilgore; grandsons, William Kilgore, Colby Evans, Logan Hager, and Carson Hager; Nephews, Steve Guthrie, Stuart Guthrie and Stanley Guthrie. A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway with a Funeral Service to be held at 3:00 pm.
