Lt. Col. Howard T. Meek, Retired U.S.A.F, passed away October 29, 2015, age 93. He was born on October 19, 1922 in Burkes Garden, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Julie; daughter, Nancy Dein and husband John; grandchildren, Laurel Dein and husband Courtland Chillingworth, David, Michael and Caroline Dein. A memorial service will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Air Force Village II, 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd. with interment with Air Force military honors at 1:45 P.M. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In a 24-year career in the Air Force he flew 53 different types of aircraft, with assignments in SAC, MAC and TAC. Duty stations included Germany, Libya, Japan, and many bases in the United States. He loved flying and flew until the day before he retired in 1967 and then the family returned to Texas. After 6 years in civilian aviation, he worked 12 years as a corporate executive at Church’s Chicken, headquartered in San Antonio. Retiring to AFVII, he devoted himself to family, golf and model aircraft. His unique model of the XC99, made to scale from the original AF plans is displayed in the Air Force Museum, Wright-Patterson AFB. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
