Bryant Ingram, a San Antonio native and innovative manufacturer of world-renowned road equipment, died on Sunday July 15, 2012 surrounded by friends and family. Bryant was born in San Antonio, Texas October 10, 1928, and was named Hudson Bryant Ingram after his father. As a boy, he attended Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, Thomas Jefferson High School which his children later attended, and Allen Academy in Bryan, Texas. Following school, Mr. Ingram began working at a family manufacturing business, Acme Iron Works and later Ingram Manufacturing Inc., in San Antonio. Some of his greatest career successes were found here. Under his direction and exemplary of his creative talent, he broke new ground when he created and added an automatic transmission to Ingram’s road equipment after watching airplane tugs use this type of transmission at an airport. This innovation was then adopted by other manufacturers of road equipment and became an industry standard. Not only this, but he developed and implemented the manufacture of a power broom, hydraulically controlled power steering, and a hydrostatic roller. He put his stamp on his work, literally and figuratively, and changed the rounded front roller design to an angular sleek geometric front. Another major career achievement was in the acquisition of Seguin Aviation, an airplane conversion plant that transformed the outmoded Piper Apache into the new Geronimo aircraft, making it sleeker, faster, and more aerodynamic. Mr. Ingram is predeceased by his parents, Hudson Bryant Ingram and Fay Trahan, his sisters, Janie Ingram and Peggy Trahan, and son, Rocky Ingram. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Ingram, and his children, Hudson and wife Diane, Arnette, Wes and wife Ann, Troy, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Visitation will take place at Sunset Funeral Home Thursday July 19, 2012 from 5pm to 9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday July 20, 2012 at 9am at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow.
