

Hugh Patrick Shovlin, devoted husband, loving father and devout Aggie passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the age of 83. Fondly known as "Pat", he was born November 20, 1923.
Pat was a graduate of Texas A&M class of 1945. He served with distinction in the 1st Cavalry Division during World War II in the Philippines and Japan, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.
After his military service, Pat finished his undergraduate education at Texas A&M then completed his law degree at UT Law School. He began practicing law with Birkhead, Beckmann, Stanard, Vance & Wood.
A few years later, Pat resumed his military service in the Reserves; both with the 312th Logistical Command and 321st Civil Affairs Group where he served as Commanding Officer for four years.
When Pat retired from the Reserves in 1974, with the rank of Colonel, he was awarded the Legion of Merit. Pat finished his legal career in the US Attorney's office, serving as Chief of the Civil Section. In 1975, he was appointed by local judges to serve as the interim US attorney of the Western District of Texas.
After retiring, Pat devoted himself to Texas A&M Football, golf and travel. Pat is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Clara L. Shovlin; daughters, Samantha McCall and husband, Sean, Christin Ellis and husband, Michael, Vicki Cox and husband, Scott; son, Mike Shovlin and wife, Nancy. He is also survived by grandchildren, Taliesin McCall, Grant Ellis, Dane Ellis, Sarah Cox, Matthew Shovlin, Patrick Cox, Julia Shovlin and great grandchildren, Emrys McCall and Cerridwen McCall.
