Inga Kay Vanek passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 64. Born on July 3, 1960, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Charles and Erika Vanek, Inga lived a life full of creativity, compassion, and dedication.
A graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School, she earned her associate’s degree from San Antonio College. Inga was an avid gardener and the proud owner of a successful gardening business, designing and maintaining countless landscapes for homes and businesses across the region. Inga also worked in drugstores and pharmacies for over 20 years.
Inga lived in Berkeley, California for over 40 years and was a docent at the Berkeley Historical Society.
She was a lifelong volunteer, offering her time to the Therapy Pets organization and collecting clothing for women’s centers in California. Her love for animals shone through her 25 years of service to various charities.
Inga is preceded in death by her beloved parents. She is survived by her soulmate of 32 years, Amanda Duisman; her sister, Helen Vanek; niece, Dara Vanek; and many dear family members and friends.
Inga’s warmth, generosity, and green thumb touched many lives. She will be deeply missed.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 1pm at St. John Neumann's Catholic Church with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park located at 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
