

Irene Gertrude Byron born in Summit, South Dakota to the late Elvin Alvin and Lydia Elvira Peterson French on June 12, 1922 passed away in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the age of 85.
She traveled the world as a military wife where she taught history and government in Turkey during the 1950's. Irene also worked for the American Red Cross as a hospital volunteer. Throughout her travels she attended various churches, played the organ and sang in the choir.
Painting was Irene's passion but golf was her hobby winning her many trophies. She leaves her beautiful paintings as her legacy.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Col. William Joseph Byron, Jr.; and infant son, Anthony John Byron.
She is survived by her son, Michael William Byron and wife, Jamie of Warsaw, Indiana; daughter, Helen Irene Byron Johannes and husband, Ron of Sugarland, Texas; grandchildren, Traci Leah Rickert and husband, Greg of Boerne, Texas; Jay Elgin Johannes and wife, Caroline of Weimer, Texas; William Chase Byron, and Delaney Sue Byron both of Warsaw, Indiana; great grandchildren, Cara Rickert, Catie Rickert, Nate Johannes and Emma Johannes; two sisters, Evelyn Sieh of Wheaton, Illinois; and Iva Mae Petersen of Colfax, Illinois.
Irene will join her beloved husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
