

At a very young age her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. With her sister and brothers, during her early years each summer, she enjoyed attending the Blue Mountain Camp in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, near the Delaware water gap. She attended Western High School, the Peabody Conservatory and graduated from the Bard-Avon School.
On September 21, 1926 she married Henry Cohen in Baltimore. After her marriage, she spent time in the oil fields of West Texas, lived in the Texas Hotel in Fort Worth and saw her first well drilled outside of Jacksboro.
She spent time in Breckenridge, Eastland, Wichita Falls, Burkburnet and returned to Baltimore where her sons Malcolm and Arthur where born.
In 1935 she and her husband moved to San Antonio. She belonged to many organizations. She was a Gray Lady with the Red Cross caring for the wounded when they returned to Lackland Air Force Base from the Korean War.
Irene Polan Cohen was an engaging woman of great elegance and considered taste.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry; sons, Malcolm H. Cohen and Arthur A. Cohen; brother, Bernard and sister, Lillian.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sarae M. Cohen of San Antonio; brother, Alvin F. Polan of Owings Mills, Maryland; brother, Joseph Polan and wife, Aileen of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandson Alan P. Cohen, M.D. of Passaic, New Jersey; granddaughter, Nancy Cohen Ginsburg and husband, Robert; loving great-grandchildren, Perry Heilbron Ginsburg and Serena Polan Ginsburg all Fort Worth, Texas.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph F. Wells, M.D. for his compassionate care and Amelia Orta for her years of loyal service.
