Isidro L. Fuentes Jr., age 92, entered into the presence of our Father in Heaven on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Winter Haven, Texas on January 6, 1931. He is preceded in death by his mother, Damacia Lopez Fuentes, his father Isidro Fuentes, two sisters, and numerous brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Fuentes. His family includes Jennifer, Arthur, Mark, and Robyn, as well as Jonathan, Jared, Julia, Jasmine, Jaclyn, Charlie, Alana, Everett, and Beau. He considered his wonderful neighbors to be family.
Isidro came from a hard-working migrant family who often traveled north to work in the fields. Early in life he learned to work with his hands, and he learned to work hard. At an early age, he joined the US Army, where he served in the Infantry as a Combat Engineer. During two tours in Korea, he served valiantly earning the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and the Korean War Service medal. While serving two tours in Viet Nam, he again was awarded numerous medals, including two Bronze Stars, one for Valor in the field.
After he retired from the Army, Isidro did not really retire. Because he was a hard worker, because he knew something about everything and because he was a kind soul and could not see anyone suffer or do without, he helped many. He mowed neighbors’ lawns. He helped repair neighbors’ vehicles. He helped put up neighbors’ fences and did home repairs and remodels. For Free! He even helped his brother build his home. We are all grateful to Isidro and will miss him immensely. The world is a better place because of Isidro.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for wonderful, compassionate care to the doctors and staff at Brooke Army Medical Center, especially Dr. Gore, Cardiology and Dr. William LaShomb, G.I. Clinic. In addition, the family recognizes and appreciates the wonderful care received by Isidro from Dr. Mohamed Shafiu, Dr. Fadi Abouzahr and the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care. We cannot thank you enough!
The family will receive family and friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28th at Porter Loring Mortuary West.
The beauty and sentiment expressed by flowers is recognized, however, in lieu of flowers, any donation made in Isidro’s name to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486, would be greatly appreciated.
