Ismael "Mike" Vela, Sr.

Ismael “Mike” Vela, Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Mike was born on March 27, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas to Felipe and Enriqueta Vela, the 6th of 8 children. In 1957, he met the love of his life Candy and they were married on July 14, 1963 at San Fernando Cathedral. In 1972, after years of being closed, Mike proudly reopened his father’s moving business City Delivery Service and operated it until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enriqueta Lozano and Felipe Vela, brothers Rudy Rodriguez and Paul Charles, sisters Manuela “Meme” Vela and Eduvina “Vina” Gonzales. Ismael is survived by his loving wife, Candelaria “Candy” Vela; daughter, Magda “Maggie” Rodriguez (Ross); sons, Rey Vela (Debbie), Ismael “Michael” Vela, Jr. (Tiffany); and grandchildren, Katherine (Rueben), Jessica, Madeline, Ismael “Trey” Vela III, Marissa (Jacob), Celina (David) and Julianna, great-grandchildren Ethan, Thalia, Carson and Conner and sisters Caterina “Caty” Pena (Rene), Enriqueta “Queta” Bowman (Bud) and Helen “Nena” Flores (Fred), and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
