Jack Brown Kallison of San Antonio died on November 25, 2023 at the age of 92. Jack graduated high school from the Texas Military Institute and then went on to earn a degree from Colgate University in New York. After college, Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he became a First Lieutenant and served his base in the state of Washington as its Deputy Finance Officer. After two years in the service, Jack entered St. Mary’s Law School and graduated in 1957.
That year Jack began working for his father, Morris Kallison, at Kallison Properties, a downtown San Antonio real estate development and management company where he was joined by his older brother, Jimmy Kallison, after Morris’ death in 1966. Jack and Jimmy worked tirelessly together for 35 years elevating the real estate landscape in downtown San Antonio, following and enhancing the vision of their father.
In 1962 Jack became one of the earliest San Antonio members of the Institute of Real Estate Management. This organization awarded Jack the designation of Certified Property Manager. Even after Jack retired, he would frequently drive around downtown San Antonio, so he could admire the virtues of the area, which he referred to as “the real San Antonio.”
Jack was always a sharp dresser, who felt most comfortable in a coat and tie, even in his later years. Because of his attire and his friendliness, Jack was sometimes called ‘Mayor Kallison’ by residents and staff at the retirement community where he lived.
Jack was a kind and sensitive man, who cared greatly about his family, friends, and the people who worked for him. The family would often hear those who knew Jack remark, “he was the nicest person I know.” Jack admired his father greatly and wrote a book, “He Soared With Eagles,” about his father’s life and work.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth and Morris Kallison, his sister and brother, Jane Kallison and Jimmy Kallison, aunts and uncle Pauline Neustadt, Tibe Kotz, and Perry Kallison, cousins Gerald Dubinski, Nick Kotz, Pete Kallison, and Sue Miller. Jack is survived by his cousins Bobbi Ravicz, Hattie Lee Gleichenhaus, and Maryann Friedman, his nieces and nephews Kathy Dreyfus, Nancy Kallison, John Dreyfus, Kal Kallison, and Mark Dreyfus, and many grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation for Herminia Garza, Jack’s caregiver of many years. Herminia’s dedication, care, and love of Jack enhanced his life in countless ways. The family also expresses their gratitude and love for Corinne Breitbach, Jack’s longtime friend and partner. Corrine gave Jack loving companionship for the many years they were together.
