Jack left this world and was welcomed in the arms of God on 12/10/2020 at the age of 88. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on 11/20/1932 to parents, John Knox and Anna Mae Morgan. He attended school in Corpus and was in the first graduating class of W.B. Ray High School.
Jack worked for an oil refinery and Reynold’s Aluminum Co. and later he and his family moved to San Antonio where he worked at his father-in-law’s Mobile Home sales. He was undaunted when pulling a 75’ long mobile home in traffic and up hills.
Jack and his wife, Arlene Nix Morgan met at Wesley Methodist Church in Corpus. Arlene recalls the first day she walked into the small church and saw Jack with his movie-star looks. She was 14 and he was an older man of 18. After a couple of years, they began dating and were married on 1/12/1957. They have a son, Russell Alan Morgan (Licia) and a daughter, Kelly Kay Gosdin (Brad). Each claim to be the favorite child. Russell has 3 boys-Ryan, Travis, and Zach, a daughter, Crystal (Patrick) and 1 granddaughter (Brighton). Kelly has a daughter, Ashley and a son, Raleigh (Sarah) who have a daughter, Aubrey and a son, Eli.
Jack’s great love was collecting. He spent years collecting all but five coins minted in the world in the year of 1932 (his birth year). It finally came down to a choice of purchasing the 5 coins or a divorce Arlene laughingly says. He saw the light and chose his family. He entered his collection in a local coin show and won Best of Show. A local artist, Bob Dale, who sketched people of note for the newspaper approached him to sketch his portrait. This was one of Jack’s prize possessions and he asked that it be used in his obituary.
Since there was no more challenge in coin collecting, he sold his collection and got knee deep into model railroading. He joined SAMRA and lit into building mountains, towns, and bridges. He had over 300 tiny people on his layout. He made his own pine trees and won numerous awards for them. The family cat, Missy, snuck into his train room and caused a cat-astophe.
Jack had many other interests such as building decks and walkways for our home. He and Arlene enjoyed country western dancing and sang in the church choir from their teens to the beginning of the pandemic. They enjoyed traveling and visited many countries.
Jack was our rock and we all will miss him so much but we look forward to the day we will meet again in our Father’s House.
