Jack R. Virta

Jack R. Virta, beloved husband, father, and "Poppy" returned home to the Lord on May 26, 2023. Jack was born on January 17, 1929, to Rudolph and Agnes Virta in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Virta was a proud veteran that honorably served and retired from the United States Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel. He graduated from Trinity University with a degree in Construction Management. Mr. Virta then founded his company, JJ Homes, and built many homes in the San Antonio area. Jack had a passion for stamp collecting; he was an active member and former president of the San Antonio Philatelic Association. He loved baseball season and was a loyal fan of the Texas Rangers. As a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mr. Virta’s faith was an essential aspect of his life.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Virta; daughter Valerie Pearlman (Dr. Joel Pearlman), son Tom Virta, daughter Cindy Lopez, daughter Lisa Gonzales (Gilbert Gonzales), daughter Laura Corona (Mickey Corona); grandchildren Zoe Pearlman, Sarah Pearlman, Brandon Vogel (Victoria Vogel), Amanda Lopez, Paul Gonzales (Terah Gonzales), Michael Gonzales (Jessica Gonzales), Rebekah Gonzales, Ashlin Corona, Avery Corona, Abigail Corona; great grandchildren Ryder, Braedon, Bailey, Nash, Laney, Thea; and his beloved dog, Flo.

The Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
