Dr. James Conrad Buell

He was born and raised in Omaha, NE and died in San Antonio, TX after a brief illness. He was an avid football fan (a NE Cornhusker) and a sports car enthusiast. He loved to create things, whether it be a barbecue/smoker or a tasty ethnic meal. He was a kind hearted, humble man.

Dr. Buell attended Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical School. He completed medical fellowships in research and clinical cardiology at the University of Nebraska, Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, GA, and the University Hospitals and VA Hospitals in Madison, WI. He practiced cardiology in NE, AZ, NV and TX. He was a passionate scholar and teacher all of his life. He was a professor of medicine at the Universities of Nebraska and Wisconsin, and at Texas Tech University. His research and publications were extensive. Dr. Buell had been in private practice at the Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio for almost 14 years at the time of his passing. His goal was to retire in 2016, having served as a physician for a full 50 years.

He is survived by his daughters: Betsy Londoo (Luis) and Annie Irwin (Brian); his sister: Janet Smith (Jonathan); nine grandchildren: Foster, Calvin, Xander, Jonathan and Jessica Irwin; and Sophia, Mary, Katrina and Nicholas Londoo; and nephews: Bil, Brian and Steve Smith.

There will be a viewing and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
