James Joseph "Jim" Cain was born on September 24, 1929 in Sherman, Texas. He was the fifth child and only son of James J. Cain and Emma Wood Cain. Thelma, Mary Margaret, Betsy, and Peggy had a great love for their little brother. Jim died on July 24, 2015.
Jim attended high school in Sherman, Texas and Texas A&M, where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He had a long and distinguished career with Mobil Oil. While at Mobil, Jim took great pride in being part of the college recruiting team. He interviewed many prospective graduates and was an incredible mentor.
Jim also proudly served his country in Korea. He made friends wherever he went. If Jim liked you, there was no doubt. Conversely, if Jim did not care for you, that was obvious as well. We all enjoyed Jim's sharp mind, and occasionally were treated to his sharp tongue. Jim made many friends while at The Towers. He enjoyed getting to know his neighbors as well as the staff.
Jim enjoyed golf, reading mysteries, and his Aggies. He was a loyal supporter of Texas A&M, funding numerous scholarships and also providing grants to Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. In recognition of his character, achievements, and generous support, the Mechanical Engineering/Physics Laboratory Building on the Texas A&M campus is named the James J. Cain '51 Building.
