

James Horace Doss, 76, of Smithville, Texas, passed away on April 27, 2022. He was born in Magnolia, Arkansas on August 18, 1945. He graduated from Pasadena High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969, spending much of that time on the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier. He worked most of his life with electronics and electrical equipment, including owning an overhead crane repair business for many years and working as a quality control technician in the aerospace division of BAE Systems until he retired in 2007.
He had a lifelong passion for amateur radio and enjoyed participating in clubs and visiting with other “ham” radio operators. His love for the forest and outdoors drew him to the pine trees of Smithville. He enjoyed fishing and kayaking the Colorado River and boating in the nearby lakes.
He was survived by his three sons Michael, Brian, and Nathan; grandchildren Zackery and Kylie; his sister, Kay McKinney, and his brother Robert.
His funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm (visitation will begin at 2:30 pm) on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home located at 1701 Austin Highway in San Antonio, Texas.
His burial service will be held at 10:15 am on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road in San Antonio, Texas.
