James Randolph Dowdy

After graduating from McKinney High School, James attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his BA, North Texas State University where he received his MA and then on to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where her received his MD.

From 1964 – 1976, James worked in medical private practice in Dallas, Texas; with one interruption from 1966 – 1968 when he served in the US Army in the Vietnam War. In 1976, James rejoined the US Army, Department of Medicine and began a career which lasted 20 years and saw James and his spouse, Betty, stationed at several location throughout the US and Europe with his last assignment being San Antonio, Texas. Throughout James’ career, he was a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, American Academy of Dermatology, Association of Military Dermatologists, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States and the Association of the United States Army.

James was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Betty. James is survived by his children Emily Dowdy-Bee (Daniel), Cathy Young and James Randolph Dowdy Jr. (Kathy); his grandchildren Justin Young, Elizabeth Bee, Joseph Dowdy, Collin Young and Katherine Dowdy.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. A Chapel Service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 9:00 am at the Sunset Funeral Home with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
