

James Henry Harness, a beloved son, brother, and friend passed away on May 23, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 58. He was born on August 24, 1965, in Pleasanton, Texas to Joyce and Charles Harness. James was known for his boundless creativity, dedication, and kind heart, and left an irreplaceable mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
James demonstrated an early aptitude for both academics and hands-on skills, graduating as the salutatorian of his high school class in 1983. In May 1987, James enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he trained as an aircraft mechanic. His time in the Air Force was marked by his unwavering commitment to excellence and his meticulous attention to detail. After his honorable discharge, James continued his career as an aircraft mechanic in the civilian sector, where his expertise was highly valued.
James's love for mechanics extended beyond aircrafts, leading him to also become an accomplished auto mechanic. His skill in diagnosing and repairing vehicles was matched by his passion for work, making him a trusted and respected figure in the automotive community.
He was also an artist at heart and his love for tattoos and body art led him to work in a tattoo shop, where he shared his creative talents with others. His artistry extended to the kitchen as he was also an avid cook. He began his culinary journey as a line cook in a local restaurant, where his dedication and talent quickly earned him the position of kitchen manager. His culinary skills brought joy to many, and his leadership in the kitchen was both inspiring and motivating to his colleagues.
James’s life was marked by a diverse range of interests and talents. His ability to master multiple trades was a reflection of his relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence. Whether he was fixing an aircraft, repairing a car, creating art, or cooking a meal, James approached each task with meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine passion that inspired those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jesse Salcedo. James is survived by his siblings, DeDe Salcedo, Chantell Harris (Craig), and Tom Harness (Monica); nieces and nephews, Clint Harness (Dawn), Curtis Smith, Patrick Judd (Alicia), Joseph Salcedo (Priscilla), Jasmine Valles (AJ), and Autumn Lara (Nick); and numerous extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Maddison Hills Baptist Church, located at 15413 O'Connor Rd, San Antonio, TX 78247.
A committal service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, located 520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
