

James H. Kinney “JIM” Kinney passed away from complications of Kidney Disease on April 18, 2014 at the age of 85. He resided all his life in Des Moines, IA until relocating to San Antonio, TX in 2000. Jim was an accomplished Jazz Drummer during the Jazz era with the likes of Buddy Rich, The Dorsey’s and Frank Sinatra and others and later went on to serve in the Auto Sales Industry for local Des Moines dealerships like Orville Lowe Lincoln Mercury and Used Auto Dealer’s as manager over operations for Cliff Welling and Ralph Bell before starting his own Used Car and Motor Marine company dba Kinney Motor and Marine.
Jim is survived by his children Tim Kinney, Jim Kinney, Jr. and Gary Kinney as on well as his Step Son, Denny Huston, a lifelong friend of the family of 75 years Phyliss Fair, Brother-In-Law, James "BoBo" Thomas. Jim also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: DJ Huston II, Sheri Oursler, Kyle Kinney, Keir Kinney, Brett Kinney, Kristin Reeves, Jason Douglas, Brian Douglas 10 great-grandchildren; 4 nieces: Rhonda Ammann, Vicki Morris, Debbie Woods, Terry O'Rielly and 1 nephew: Todd Thomas. Jim Kinney touched many hearts and will be greatly missed and our prayers go out to her family.
There will be a joint Gravesite service at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa for Jim Kinney and his wife of 56 years, Alyce “Totty” Kinney. Date June 07, 2014 w/ time to be determined at a later time with Obituary posting in Des Moines Register.
As per his request, Jim will be cremated and be joined with Alyce Kinney in a joint burial at Glendale Cemetery on June 07, 2014 for Gravesite Services at a time to be determined.
