

He was born Friday, October 13, 1922, in Rockwood, Texas, to William Leroy and Eula Beatrice Stafford.
James enjoyed working with his father on their farm before serving his country during World War II. He was assigned to the Army's 80th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Division, where he earned an EAME Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, 1 Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Victory Ribbon with 1 Service Stripe and 3 Overseas Service Bars.
After leaving the service, he entered college receiving a Bachelor's Degree from Texas Tech.
James obtained a job with the USDA and worked at various locations including Mexico, retiring at his last assignment in Eagle Pass.
He was a Master Mason, most recently at the Las Moras Creek Lodge in Brackettville, Texas.
James is survived by his loving wife, Mary Flo; adoring daughter, Judy K. Walther; 4 grandchildren, Karen L. Chandler, Amy E., Kyle A. and Scott A. Walther; 2 great-grandchildren, Oren X. Walther and Connor A. Chandler; 2 siblings, Francis Shamblin and Archie Bob Stafford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Children's Fund, 105 James St., Brackettville, Texas 78832.
