

He was born September 22, 1917, in the Goliad Street home of Dr. James Peter Oldham, the site which is now the Institute of Texan Cultures.
He was married to Lillie Ruth Franklin, daughter of Orrn Ripley Franklin and Minnie Frances Holcombe, on July 23, 1948, who preceded him in death on June 12, 2010.
He was a graduate of Brackenridge High School, San Antonio College, St. Mary's University B.A., Summa cum Laude, & M.A. and a Library Science degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. He taught in three public schools and during the war years under civil service, he became Civilian Payroll Certifying Officer at Randolph Air Force Base.
He was Emeritus Professor and Director of Learning Resources at San Antonio College where he was employed for thirty-five years. During this time, he also supervised a library technology program which included two workshops for Air Force library technical employees at the College.
He was a life member of Bexar Library Association President, 1951-52, Texas Library Association President, 1983, and the American Library Association. He received awards from state and national library organizations for his work with the associations, including in 2002 as a Texas Library champion.
He was also listed in Who's Who in America. He was a member for more than 80 years and life deacon at First Baptist Church, San Antonio Chairman, 1967-68. He was the church historian and parliamentarian.
The church library, with which he was involved for over 70 years, was named in his honor.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn and Douglas Denning, Katy, TX; Frances and Walter Peterson, Bandera, TX; and Thelma and John Pittman, Trophy Club, TX; grandchildren: Reagan Peterson, Sarah Denning, Amy McGee, Travis Peterson, and Holly Pittman; great-grandson, Aidan McGee; brothers: James V. Wallace, Jr., College Station, TX and Carter L. Wallace and wife, Doris, Comfort, TX; sister, Sylvia Alsbury, Tucson, AZ.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Porter Loring.
