He was born October 26, 1931, in San Antonio to Louis and Luella Ward. Following graduation from Jefferson High School, he joined the Navy. Directly after his discharge Jim joined City Public Service, retiring as a maintenance supervisor, after 35 years.
Jim was an avid fisherman and spent some of his happiest years with his family, living on the water in Aransas Pass for 15 years. He was a very social man, especially with friends at the Hanging Tree Saloon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis "Sonny"; two sisters, Ruth Ward and Edith Ward Fuqua; and wife of 53 years, Donna.
He is survived by his daughters, Leann Ward, Karen Fox and husband Mark; grandchildren, Joshua, Jori, and James; brother-in-law, Leon West; former caregivers and good friends, Betty and Ina Orr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their thanks to the staff at Northeast Baptist for their care over the years and Graceland Assisted Living for the outstanding love and care given to our father and his cat, Tuffy.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
