Jane Ann DeHart

Jane Ann (Stuurmans) DeHart was born August 5, 1936 in St. Paul, MN, and was adopted by Dr. Sheldon H. and Lucille Stuurmans. She spent the first years of her life in St. Cloud. MN, but moved to Santa Barbara, CA where she lived with her adoptive parents before she joined the Air Force in April, 1957. This is when Jane met and married her husband, Jefferson H. DeHart, on February 29, 1958. She passed from this world on August 14, 2011. Jane was a loving wife and mother, but most of all she was a great lady. After she left the Air Force, she and Jeff had three children and settled in San Antonio, Tx. For the next 30 years she worked for, and retired from, Security Service Federal Credit Union. She served beside her husband for many years as they enjoyed being a part of the Valley-Hi Optimist Club, working with and raising money for the youth in their community. Never one to turn down a request to help, she served on the Boards of the Optimist Basketball Classic, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation, Gold Youth Leadership and other great causes for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Jane is survived by her sons Jefferson H. DeHart, Jr. and wife Debbie of Cibolo, Tx., Sheldon R. DeHart and wife Leslie of Hutto, Tx., and her daughter Janine M. DeHart of Pflugerville, Tx., as well as her loving grandchildren, Tallon V. DeHart of Austin, Tx., Ashley N. Ausborn and Cody R. DeHart of Cibolo, Tx., and Sarah M. and Amanda H. DeHart of Hutto, Tx. Viewing will be Sunday August 21 from 5 until 7 pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. Funeral services will be Monday August 22 at noon at Sunset Northwest, with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, or to the Valley-Hi Optimist Club in order to continue their efforts working with the children in the community.
