

Jane Esther Ward, age 89, born October 24, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri, died Monday, July 1, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Although she was not born and raised in Texas, once she arrived, she considered herself a native Texan; residing in San Antonio for over 60 years. She was an instructor at Billy Mitchell Bowling Lanes and Woodlawn Bowling Lanes and while working for the Texas Women's Bowling Association, wrote for the "Across Texas Lanes" in the 1960s. She also played tennis and golf, with golf becoming her primary passion. She played at least three times a week, walking the courses until four years prior to her death. She was a member and past President of San Antonio Women's Golf Association. And member of both Kelly A.F.B. and Lackland A.F.B. golf courses. Jane was also a real estate agent and broker for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edwin Ward, Jr., Sergeant Major (Ret.), U.S. Army and son-in-law, Officer Gary Lee Williams, S.A.P.D. She is survived by her daughter, Janelle and son-in-law, Mike Luckey; stepdaughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Bill Chambers; grandchildren, David Chambers, Stephen Williams, Patrick Williams, Marcy Chambers Tucker, Jessica Chambers and Woody Chambers and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough Ave.
